Boulder, Colorado is a great place to dine, partly because the city has a wide variety of restaurants. Personality-wise, Boulder is youthful and fun. Many of the fancy restaurants in Boulder are chef-owned and thus, there is always innovation in delicious cuisine. Some of the food is California-influenced, while other restaurants pride themselves on being unique to the city.

Flagstaff House Restaurant should be the first establishment on your food itinerary. It is named after its perch on Flagstaff Mountain. This restaurant offers scenic views of downtown Boulder from afar, as well as elegant candlelit dining. The menu changes daily, though entrees usually highlight fish and rocky mountain game meat. There is also a wine cellar with over 20,000 bottles.

Black Cat is another eclectic restaurant, though you might not guess its quality from the size. This restaurant hosts an intimate atmosphere and home-grown vegetables from the chef’s own farm acreage. Popular dishes include Study of Rabbit and Juxtaposition of Duck.

The Kitchen Bistro is a relatively new restaurant that serves organic foods in a metropolitan setting. Diners here can look forward to dishes like slow-roasted pork, lamb burgers, gnocchi, Maine oysters and vegetarian alternatives.

Last but not least there is Jax Fish House. This restaurant, with a patio and bar, serves fresh seafood and meals like raw oysters, martinis, bluenose, salmon and seafood “po boy.” Other popular restaurants include Frasca, John’s Restaurant, Rio Grande, Illegal Pete’s and Sushi Zanmai. There is a wide variety of food in the city, ranging from seafood to Asian to Mediterranean style.

While sightseeing in Colorado is probably first on your list, don’t forget to take in some of the fabulous cuisine while in town! No matter how you like to eat, you will find the perfect spot in Downtown Boulder.
